GINGER (Zingiber officinalis) has been known over the years, to have great benefits all over the world. We use it locally in Ghana as seasoning for food, and in our local drinks, but did you know of these benefits too?
- To reduce Nausea and Vomiting associated with morning sickness and cancer treatment.
- As an essential oil, it enhances physical and mental wellbeing, giving one a ‘feel good’ factor.
- It stimulates the digestive system and relieves stomach bloating (mild carminative effect)
- It increases circulation and detoxifies the body ,so toxins associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis are reduced.
- It has been known to aid in weight loss when added in green tea as morning drink on an empty stomach.
- When used on the skin, it can reduce inflammation but it must be used with caution as it may cause contact dermatitis on individuals with sensitive skin.
- Ginger has antibacterial properties that works as a sore throat remedy.
- Some studies have revealed that it can help to prevent some cancers in women.
So now you know, if you are already a fan of Ginger, don’t be afraid to use it more. If you don’t use Ginger at all, you are missing out. Its strong smell takes some getting used to, but it is excellent in seasoning fish and chicken.
